Google accepts 60% of requests for 'right to be forgotten'

Tuesday 23 December 2014 | 10:55 CET | News
Google has received 189,238 requests to remove links to personal information on its search engine, according to the company's latest transparency report. The requests were received after the EU Court of Justice ruling in May established a "right to be forgotten" in search results, if the information no longer has any public interest value but could be harmful to the individual. The number of such requests is increasingly steadily; Google last reported around 140,000 received in October. The requests to date cover a total 684,419 URLs, of which Google has removed 40.1 percent.

Actually, Google has rejected 60% of requests, not accepted 60%. This means it has KEPT UP 59.8% of the URLs, not removed 59.8%. Also, Google is updating the page as it processes requests, so it wasn't last updated only in October. For example, the page in late November said Google had received about 170000 requests. http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/removals/europeprivacy/?hl=en
