Google Assistant to come to all Nougat, Marshmallow phones

Google announced plans to roll out its Google Assistant software to more Android smartphones. First launched with its own Pixel smartphones and also integrated with the upcoming LG G6, Google Assistant is now expanding to smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The voice-controlled Assistant helps users perform a number of tasks, from launching apps to translating text, following directions or receiving calendar reminders. It uses a form of artificial intelligence to learn from the user, so the more Google Assistant is used, the more accurate it becomes.

The Google Assistant will begin rolling out in the coming week to English users in the US, followed by English in Australia, Canada and the UK and German speakers in Germany. Google said it will continue to add more languages over the coming year. The Google Assistant will automatically come to eligible Android phones running Nougat and Marshmallow with Google Play Services.

Google will be displaying Google Assistant running on a number of Android partner phones, including devices from HTC, Huawei, Samsung and Sony, at the Mobile World Congress. It also recently extended the software to smartwatches running Android Wear 2.0 and plans to launch it soon on TVs and cars.
