Google buys data analytics specialist Looker for USD 2.6 bln
Google has agreed to buy data analytics specialist Looker for USD 2.6 billion in an all-cash transaction. Looker will join Google Cloud. The two companies have been partners for some time and share over 350 customers, including Buzzfeed, Hearst, King, Sunrun, WPP Essence, and Yahoo!. The acquisition should complete later this year, subject to the usual closing conditions and regulatory approvals. 

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the acquisition will let Google harness data in new ways, across all the clouds.

Google has completed its USD 2.6 billion acquisition of Looker. The deal was announced in June but came under scrutiny in December from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which wanted to make sure it would not reduce competition. Google Cloud to double team in Portugal

Google Cloud intends to double its team in Portugal, the head of Google Cloud in the country, Jorge Reto, told Lusa. He said that last year's performance was positive, with turnover growing by around three digits. However Reto did not provide any figures, since it is not Google's policy to disclose this type of data. He also revealed that the company has a pipeline of projects and is investing in the consolidation of certified partners.
