Google calls for cooperation against patent trolls
Google has called for industry players to cooperate on cross-licensing agreements, in order to limit the escalating patent litigation generated by patent trolls. The company launched a new "cooperative licensing" website (www.google.com/patents/licensing) that outlines four possible licensing agreements, all royalty-free. Google said the goal is "to increase freedom to operate" and reduce patent litigation from companies purely interested in exploiting patents rather than developing products based on the technology. The company has called for feedback on the approaches by 09 April, by filling in a survey on the site. After that it plans to start talks with interested companies on possible future steps.
