Google calls for end to dispute with German publishers

Google has asked the German Federal Cartel Office to formally terminate proceedings regarding the copyright dispute with publishing houses, Faz.net reports, citing a letter from Google to the regulator, seen by the paper. Following complaints that Google was profiting from the publishers’' content without sufficient compensation, the government last year agreed on a law protecting their intellectual property. The result is that publishing longer excerpts, for Google News for instance, incurs a charge. Because the use of “single words and smaller text passages” remains free, the representative
