
Google Chrome passes 20% of worldwide browser market

Web browser Google Chrome reached 20.7 percent of the worldwide internet browser market in June for the first time, up from 2.8 percent in June 2009, according to a study by StatCounter. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Internet Explorer fell to 44 percent from 59 percent globally, and Firefox slid to 28 percent from 30 percent. Chrome performed particularly well in South America where it overtook Firefox in April to become the number two browser. In June it reached 29.7 percent, ahead of Firefox's 24.6 percent and behind IE at 44.1 percent. In the US, Chrome rose to 16 percent behind market leader IE at 46.5 percent and Firefox at 24.7 percent. In the UK, Chrome at 21.1 percent was neck and neck with Firefox on 21.7 percent. IE leads the UK market with 46.4 percent.
