Google data centre project faces opposition in Luxembourg on environmental grounds

Local authorities in Bissen, a small town in Luxembourg, will hold a vote in April on the future of a EUR 1.2 billion project put forward by Google to build a new data centre on a 34-hectare site, reports Politico. Local activists have been campaigning against the plan, concerned about the environmental footprint of the facility. Among other things, they argue that the data centre could reportedly burn through around 12 percent of the country's electricity, while providing only about 100 jobs.
