Google denies reaching EUR 320 mln Italian tax settlement

Google has flatly denied news that it has reached a settlement to pay Italian authorities EUR 320 million in back taxes but has confirmed that negotiations remain ongoing. Italian daily Corriere della Sera had previously reported that Google had agreed to pay the alleged debt, corresponding to taxable income of EUR 800 million generated in Italy over a five-year period. Milan prosecutor Edmondo Bruti Liberati subsequently added in a statement that officials had indeed initiated discussions with Google representatives relating to its earnings in Italy from 2008 to 2013, including checks on tax
