Google drops development of own tablets

Google has stopped developing its own tablets, the company confirmed to Computerworld. The company announced at an internal meeting that it would focus on laptops instead.

Google has not announced a new tablet since the Pixel Slate in 2018. The company did have two smaller-sized tablets under development, but decided earlier this week to drop all work on those devices and make its roadmap revolve entirely around laptops instead.

The Pixel phones are unaffected by the decision, as they are developed by a separate team.

The Pixel Slate will still be supported, but no successor is planned, a spokesman told Business Insider. The company also will still work with partners and other manufacturers who use its Chrome OS for tablets and laptops.
