The OnHub is designed with internal antennas and subtle lighting, so it can be placed out in the open where it works best. During setup, OnHub searches the airwaves and selects the best channel for the fastest connection. The antenna and software are designed to keep working in the background, automatically adjusting the router to avoid interference and maintain peak performance. Users can also prioritize a device, so that the most important activity, such as streaming video or a wireless phone, gets the fastest speed.
The router comes with the Google On app, available on Android or iOS. The app provides information such as bandwidth usage, can run a network check, and can offer suggestions to resolve problems with the router. It also stores the password and allows this to be shared with visiting friends. Google said it will update OnHub regularly, for security as well as new technologies like Bluetooth Smart Ready, Weave, or 802.15.4. Other OnHub devices are planned with additional hardware partners; Asus will be the next to release a device, later this year.
