Google moves Nest, motherboard production out of China - report

Wednesday 12 June 2019 | 10:17 CET | News

Google is moving some production of Nest thermostats and server hardware out of China, avoiding punitive US tariffs and an increasingly hostile government in Beijing, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

Google has already shifted much of its production of US-bound motherboards to Taiwan, helping the company avoid a 25 percent tariff imposed by the US on Chinese products. Tariffs have also pushed American-bound production of its Nest devices to Taiwan and Malaysia, the report said.

Google declined to comment on production adjustments.
