Google offers to let rivals bid for prime ad slots - report

Tuesday 19 September 2017 | 09:05 CET | News
Google has responded to the European's Commission record EUR 2.4 billion anti-trust fine by offering to revamp its shopping search results so that rivals can bid for space to display products for sale, according to unnamed sources cited by the Wall Street Journal. The proposal to open up the auction would involve Google itself bidding against rival shopping comparison sites to display products for sale in the space above its general search results. Google would also set itself a price cap that it wouldn't be able to bid above, but competitors could do so if they wished, said the sources.
