Google RCS messaging available globally, launches encryption beta

Google has confirmed that Android users worldwide can now access the RCS next-generation mobile messaging standard, with the exception of users in China, Russia, Iran and Cuba. The Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard is built right into the company's Messages application, allowing users to send and receive better quality photos and videos, chat over Wi-Fi or data, know when their message is read, share reactions and enjoy more dynamic and engaging group chats.
