Google separates shopping unit to allay EU competition concerns

Google is creating a standalone unit for its shopping service and will require it to bid against rivals for ads shown on the top of its search page, in an effort to satisfy EU competition concerns. The company has until 28 September to comply with the European Commission's order to stop favouring its own shopping service in Google search results.
