Google has unveiled the name of Android 9 and started rolling out the update to its Pixel smartphones. The new version of the smartphone OS is known as Android Pie, in line with the company's habit of naming each release after a sweet or dessert. It will roll out to other devices over the coming months.
Android P was first released in beta in May, and Google said over 14,000 people and seven manufacturers tested the preview builds. The new software makes increased use of machine learning and artificial intelligence to improve phone features such as battery life and screen brightnesss, and also introduces new app 'actions' and 'slices' to make it easier to find and access apps quickly.
