Google targets 100% renewable power with new data centre

Google has officially opened its new data centre in Eemshaven, in the north of the Netherlands, at a ceremony with the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp. The company is investing EUR 600 million in the project, which is expected to create 200 jobs. Google said the site runs entirely on renewable energy, such as wind turbines in the North Sea. This is part of its goal to run its entire global operations on renewable energy from 2017, including both data centres and offices. The company claims it is the world's largest corporate buyer of renewable power, with commitments reaching 2.6
