Google to deploy light beam-based internet in rural India

Google is exploring the possibility of using light beam technology to connect underserved communities in the Andhra Pradesh state in India. In a blog post from the tech giant's R&D firm Alphabet X, the company confirmed it's working with local operator AP State FiberNet to deploy Free Space Optical Communications (FSOC), a technology that uses beams of light to deliver high-speed, high-capacity connectivity over long distances. Described as "just like fiber optic cable, but without the cable", FSOC boxes are placed kilometers apart on roofs or towers, with the signal beamed directly between
