Google to spend further USD 140 mln on Chilean data centre

Thursday 13 September 2018 | 08:35 CET | News
Google and Chilean officials announced that the US tech giant has committed to spending a further USD 140 million on an expansion of its sole data centre in Latin America. The new phase 2 investment comes on top of the USD 150 million invested in phase 1 and will triple the data centre's size to 11.2 hectares, creating more than 1,000 new jobs in the construction process and 120 new permanent jobs, said the company. Google's data centre in Quilicura, near Santiago, became fully operational in 2015 and has operated entirely on solar power since 2017.
