Google to teach Spanish children to code in charity project

Thursday 24 September 2015 | 13:57 CET | News
Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, has joined forces with Spanish charity Ayuda en Accion to launch a programming course called "Genios" for children aged 8 to 13, reports El Pais. The partners have selected 30 schools in crisis-hit parts of Spain and starting next month will teach coding to 5,000 students with the help of 300 teachers. The 12-hour courses will teach children to code with the MIT Media Lab's Scratch system, which can be used to program interactive stories, games and animations. The initiative was presented at Google's new campus in the heart of Madrid.
