Google's Project Loon gets new head

X, the research division of Google parent company Alphabet, has hired Tom Moore to head Project Loon, Google's push to provide broadband in remote areas of the world using special balloons in the stratosphere, Bloomberg reported. Moore, co-founder of satellite-based broadband service provider WildBlue Communications, will start as a vice president at X and GM of Project Loon in mid-September. Mike Cassidy, who has run Loon since early 2012, will remain at the company's X lab to develop new research projects.
