Govt requests for Facebook user data up a third in H1

Facebook has revealed in its latest transparency report that government requests for user data shot up by 33 percent year on year to 78,990 in the first half of 2017. The US alone accounted for 41 percent of data requests, followed by India, the UK, Germany and France with 12 percent, 9 percent, 7 percent and 6 percent respectively. More than half of the requests were granted, above all in the UK (90%), US (85%) and France (74%), said Facebook. The company added that 57 percent of the data requests received from law enforcement in the US contained a non-disclosure order that prohibited it
