Greek operators fined EUR 5.5 mln for porting violations

Greek regulator EETT announced fines of a total EUR 5.486 million against the three mobile operators for failure to adhere to number portability regulations in the period 2011-2013. Cosmote was fined EUR 1.223 million, Vodafone Greece EUR 2.593 million and Wind Hellas EUR 1.67 million. The amount of the fines was based on the extent of the infringement, the number of consumers affected and the economic damages they incurred, the increased revenues for the operators as a result of the violations and the need to prevent unfair practices in future, the regulator said. In November last year, the number porting rules were already amended in an attempt to ease the process and stimulate competition.
