Groningen targets rural fibre coverage from 2017

The roll-out of fibre broadband in rural areas of the northern Dutch province of Groningen should start from next year. According to local paper Dagblad van het Noorden, the provincial government is pinning its hopes on local initiatives for rolling out fibre. Jan Sietsma, chairman of the Stichting Glasvezel Groningen, a foundation which is in regular consultation with the province, said that both the money and the will are in place to cover the province with fibre. The foundation is an unbrella group for ten local initiatives that found the public authorities were doing too little to support
