Groups respond to CJEU Opinion into data retention

Wednesday 20 July 2016 | 21:40 CET | News
UK industry and advocacy groups have been responding to the EU Advocate General, who gave an opinion ahead of a ruling on the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Act. ISPA chairman James Blessing said that the opinion of the Advocate General, whilst non-binding, raised serious questions about UK data retention legislation and called into questions some aspects of the Bill. The ISPA is now calling on the UK government to ensure the legal framework around data retention is fully compliant with the final court judgement, which is expected from the EU Court of Justice in September.
