GSMA calls for EU policy to support consolidation

The GSMA has presented a report on the benefits of the mobile industry to the European economy and called for new policies to stimulate growth in the sector. The 'Mobile Economy Europe 2013' report was presented at the industry group's Mobile360-Europe conference in Brussels. It estimates that the mobile ecosystem generated approximately 2.1 percent of GDP in the EU, contributed EUR 53 billion in public contributions and supported 394,000 jobs in the region last year. However, the mobile industry's revenues have been contracting in Europe, and the GSMA suggests the region is also falling
