GSMA calls for 'stable and secure environment' to keep MWC in Barcelona

Friday 2 February 2018 | 10:59 CET | News
The GSMA is committed to holding the GSMA Mobile World Congress until at least 2023 as long as the local authorities keep guaranteeing a "stable and secure environment", reports EFE, citing GSMA CEO John Hoffman. The chief executive of the industry body reiterated his concerns about uncertainty arising from the Catalan government's push for independence at an event hosted by Barcelona city hall but said the GSMA would honour the contract signed in 2015 to make Barcelona the Mobile World Capital and host city of the MWC through 2023 as long as the situation allowed it.
