GSMA criticises EC research on mobile prices

The GSMA has criticised the statement by the European Commission highlighting the wide disparity in mobiel call tariffs across the EU. Tom Phillips, head of regulatory affairs at the industry group, said he supports the EC's efforts to improve the single market for telecom services, but "this does not imply a single price". The EC's comparison of mobile call prices, which it said vary by 774 percent across the region, to the much more narrow gap in the price of a litre of milk in the EU "reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of market conditions", Phillips said.
