GSMA to take over WAC work
The GSM Association (GSMA) has signed an agreement to integrate the major programmes and initiatives driven by the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) into the GSMA. Further to this agreement, Apigee, a provider of API products and services, has acquired the technology assets of WAC. Apigee will continue to develop the WAC Web Run Time and network APIs and will provide these assets as a managed service to the GSMA and its mobile operator members. Previously known as the Open Mobile Terminal Platform, WAC was formed in 2010 in order to develop tools for lowering the cost and complexity of developing applications for a wide range of mobile devices. It counts over 60 members, including operators, manufacturers and software developers.
