Guyana wants to end GTT monopoly by end of July

The Guyanese government's talks with the incumbent Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) over the end of its fixed line monopoly are "going well" but may not meet the end of July deadline, reports local agency Kaieteur News, citing public telecommunications minister Catherine Hughes. The talks with GTT parent Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) began in August last year but have been delayed by issues regarding spectrum pricing and licences and the involvement of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) in the liberalisation procedure.
