Hackers use IoT devices to disrupt PayPal, Twitter, AWS

Hackers are believed to have used hundreds of thousands of internet-connected devices to launch a cyber attack on some of the world's most popular websites, reports Reuters. The attackers infected common devices like webcams and digital recorders with malicious code to disrupt access to websites such as Twitter, Paypal, Spotify and Amazon Web Services on 21 October. All were customers of a US infrastructure company called Dyn, which acts as a switchboard for internet traffic.
