Half Dutch runners use app, wearable to track activity

Tuesday 10 May 2016 | 11:19 CET | News
Half of runners in the Netherlands use a smartphone app or wearable device to track their activity, according to research by Multiscope. Over a third (35%) use an app for running, with Runkeeper the most popular (18%). Another one in five use a sports watch, for example to monitor their heart rate. Garmin and Polar together account for around half of this market. Cyclists were also found to favour 'smart health' devices. A quarter use apps such as Strava and RUnkeeper, and 30 percent use bike computers. Garmin and Polar also lead the latter market, with a 26 percent combined share.
