Half of Spain's FTTH accesses located in Madrid, Barcelona

Nearly 50 percent of Spain's installed fibre-optic accesses are located in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona, according to data on next generation access (NGA) deployment released by telecoms regulator CNMC. The report reveals that the number of FTTH accesses in Spain totalled 6.2 million in December 2013, with the populations of Madrid and Barcelona enjoying penetration rates of 58 and 65 accesses per 100 inhabitants respectively. In towns with a population of less than half a million, the number of active FTTH accesses were just 3 percent of total broadband accesses, a figure that dropped
