Half of Spanish connected homes accessing OTT video platforms - study

Almost half of Spanish households with internet access used streaming platforms to view audiovisual content online in the second quarter of 2020, up some 33 percent year on year, according to the latest consumer survey conducted by regulator CNMC. The Covid-19 lockdown imposed by the government resulted in soaring demand for SVoD platforms such as Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime Video, which saw their penetration more than double from 22.5 percent of the market in the second quarter of 2017 to 49.1 percent at the end of June.
