Hawaiki Submarine Cable to deploy Ciena's WaveLogic 5 Extreme service
Hawaiki Submarine Cable will deploy Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme technology. Hawaiki owns and operates the 15,000 km Hawaiki Transpacific Cable system, connecting Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Hawaii and the US West Coast. 

Earlier this year, Hawaiki announced a network upgrade using Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme service to upgrade reliability, availability and deliver lower latency between Oregon and Hawaii. The WaveLogic 5 Extreme upgrade is now expected to deliver channel speed increases, and lower latency. Deployed using the Waveserver 5 platform, the service works by reducing cost-per-bit with fewer wavelengths to install and manage, while its capabilities for network monitoring and programing mean networks can adjust to traffic fluctuations and optimise capacity across any path, Hawaiki Submarine Cable said.

Hawaiki will also deploy Ciena’s Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller, which is expected to deliver greater control and visibility of the network, making it easier to preempt and prevent service disruptions.

The Hawaiki Nui subsea cable project was launched by Hawaiki Submarine Cable (Hawaiki) in November 2021.

Hawaiki Submarine Cable reports it has sold 100 percent of its shares to BW Digital, an affiliate of BW Group, for an undisclosed price. The current Hawaiki team will continue to manage the business, and the transaction is subject to applicable regulatory filings and approval.

The Maldives-Sri Lanka Cable (MSC) has landed in the Maldives, connecting the coastal areas of Colombo to Hulhumale. Hawaiki has announced it has upgraded its Oregon point-of-interconnect on the US West Coast, deploying Ciena's GeoMesh submarine network equipment leveraging Waveserver Ai to create a link from Hawaii. According to Hawaiki, this route previously went from Kapolei (Hawaii) to Pacific City (Oregon) where an optical-electricaloptical regeneration was required to allow protection on the terrestrial link to Hillsboro.

Hawaiki Submarine Cable has expanded its subsea network with a direct route to Los Angeles. The new route is expected to offer increased connectivity and route diversity to clients operating between Australia, New Zealand and the US.
