Asian operator Axiata announced the completion of the merger of its Cambodian unit Hello Axiata with rival Smart Mobile. They will operate as a single entity, known legally as Latelz Company Limited. All conditions of the merger, including government clearance were met. The new company will be headed by Thomas Hundt, former CEO of Smart Mobile, while Simon Perkins, former CEO of Hello Axiata, will be appointed executive director and board member. Once integrated, the combined network will cover 97 percent of Cambodia's population and serve over 5 million customers. The company will continue under the brand name Smart, focusing on the youth and data-user segments. While service offerings will be harmonised, customers of the two operators will not need to change Sim cards.
