Honduras fixed line connections plunge another 11%

The number of fixed line connections in Honduras fell a further 10.9 percent year on year to just 442,929 in 2016, reports local daily La Prensa, citing figures from the country's regulator Conatel. The figure is 54,143 less than the 497,072 lines recorded at the end of 2015, said the report, adding that the causes could be found in the surging popularity of mobile lines, above all the VoIP services offered by messaging apps such as WhatsApp, as well as the decline of Honduran state-owned operator Hondutel, whose fixed line subscriber base has halved to around 300,000 over the past six
