Honduras sets up national register of mobile devices

Friday 25 August 2017 | 08:56 CET | News
The Honduran government has announced that telecommunications regulator Conatel will manage a new national register of international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers and SIMs created to combat mobile phone theft and contraband. The new database will serve to complement a blacklist set up in 2014 which has already registered over 450,000 devices and fines for adulteration, illegal connection and reconnection of mobile devices will range from 20 to 100 times the minimum wage, equivalent to around USD 7,500 to USD 37,000.
