Hondutel receives offers from US investors

Honduras state-owned operator Hondutel has received investment offers form US companies, Orlando Mejia Tercero, president of Hondutel's workers union, told local newspaper La Prensa. The union representative said these companies would be interested in investing in technological renovation projects and not serve as a strategic partner. On this point, Mejia believes that "this is privatization" and, "as workers and as people" they [union members] are against it. Back in November 2010, Chon Wong, chairman of Hondutel's board, said the operator needed around USD 21 million to deal with its financial difficulties, which did not mean definitively solve them, Wong added.
