Hong Kong govt launches Emergency Alert System for public warnings over SMS

The Hong Kong government has launched the emergency alert system (EAS) to send important real-time messages to mobile phone users during emergency situations that may endanger lives and properties. The EAS, which employs cell broadcast service technology, can disseminate real-time messages to all mobile phones connected to mobile networks. A message is classified as either "Emergency Alert" or "Extreme Emergency Alert" according to the severity of the incident concerned.
