HTC reports fourth quarter of losses
HTC reported an operating loss of TWD 4.8 billion for the first quarter, after a sharp fall in sales for the smartphone maker. The result compares to a small profit of TWD 0.02 billion in the year-earlier period and is the company's fourth consecutive quarter in the red. Revenues for the three months to March more than halved compared to a year ago, to TWD 14.8 billion from TWD 41.5 billion. The net loss totaled TWD 2.6 billion, including a profit of TWD 2.1 billion from selling land buildings in Taiwan.

HTC said it was off to a better start in Q2 following strong launches for its new flagship phone, the HTC 10, and its virtual reality device, the HTC Vive. The company said it will continue to work on streamlining processes and optimising its resources.

HTC sales decline slows in June

HTC saw its drop in sales slow in June, with revenues down only 26.7 percent year-on-year and 5.8 percent lower than in the previous month to TWD 6.358 billion. That is the smallest annual decline in revenues for the smartphone maker since the start of the year. In the first six months of 2016, total revenues amount to 33.683 billion, down 54.8 percent from the first half of 2015. The company will report full results for the period at a later date.

HTC Vive unveils USD 10 bln VR capital alliance

HTC Vive said it has partnered with 28 venture capital firms to create the Virtual Reality Venture Capital Alliance, Recode reported, citing a company statement made during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Shanghai. The company said member companies have USD 10 billion of investible capital, though did not specify how much would go for VR startups. VC firms taking part in the effort include Sequoia Capital and Matrix partners.

HTC verwacht beter tweede kwartaal na verlies in Q1

HTC sells land in Taoyuan City for TWD 2.88 billion

HTC has sold a piece of land located in Dashulin Section of Taoyuan City. HTC sold the 44,880 square meters land for TWD 2.88 billion. Based on total transaction amount of TWD 2.88 billion, and after deduction of taxes and other related transaction costs, gain of this disposal is expected to reach TWD 990 million, HTC said. The disposal is part of HTC's asset rationalization exercise to improve operation efficiency.

HTC 10 smartphone to launch in early May

HTC has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the HTC 10. The company has simplified its branding, dropping the 'One' and 'M' names for its latest top-of-the-range device. The HTC 10 comes with a metal casing with curved edges and 5.20-inch screen with QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels). HTC revenues fall 64% in Q1

HTC reported preliminary revenues of TWD 14.82 billion for the first quarter, down from TWD 41.5 billion a year earlier. In March alone, revenues fell 79.3 percent year-on-year to TWD 4.14 billion. HTC has a press conference scheduled for 12 April, where it is expected to announce the successor to its One M9 smartphone.

HTC Vive consumer VR ready for pre-orders

HTC's Vive virtual reality headset for consumers is now available to pre-order, with delivery expected from early April.
