Huawei claims over USD 1 bln from Verizon in patent dispute - report

Thursday 13 June 2019 | 08:54 CET | News

Huawei is seeking over USD 1 billion from Verizon Communications to settle a patent licensing dispute, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters. The carrier should pay licensing fees for more than 230 of its patents, according to the claim.

A Huawei intellectual property licensing executive wrote to the US operator in February, telling Verizon it should pay to solve the patent licensing issue, the Wall Street Journal reported. "We trust that you will see the benefit of taking a license to our patent portfolio," the letter said, according to the paper's unnamed sources. The patents at issue span core network equipment, wireline infrastructure and IoT technology.

Representatives for Huawei and Verizon met last week in New York to discuss some of the patents at issue, one of the people said. The companies declined to comment.
