
Huawei has unveiled three new phones it plans to soon launch in China. The phones, the Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5i can be seen on the company’s Chinese-language website, and were shown off during a launch event in China, GizmoChina reported.
Nova 5, Nova Pro to come with new Kirin 980 chipset
The flagship Nova 5 will come with the latest Kirin 980 chipset and sport an 6.39-inch OLED display with waterdrop notch plus support for full HD+ resolution of 1080x2340 pixels. Both the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro - with the same display - will come with an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner as well as TUB certification, support for DCI-P3 and DC dimming.
The Nov 5 Pro runs the new Kirin 810 chipset, built on 7nm production. The chipset features two CPU cores of Cortex A76 working on 2.27 GHz and six CPU cores of Cortex A55 working at 1.8 GHz. It also includes a dedicated neural processing unit.
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro will get 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of native storage while the Nova 5 will come with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB.
Both phones will support a microSD card slot and Android 9 Pie OS, plus a GPU Turbo for gamers. Both devices will get f/2.0 aperture 32-megapixel front-facing cameras, able to capture bright selfies in darker conditions. The rear side of both smartphones will have four cameras including an 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor plus a 16-megapixel superwide lens, a 2-megapixel sensor for adding depth effects and a 2-megapixel macro lens.
The Nova 5 series support super night mode, portrait mode, AI scene recognition and AI beautification features, all aimed at vloggers. Both phones will also come with 3,500 mAh batteries and fast charging, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C and a 3.5 mm audio Jack.
Nova 5i mid-range phone
The Nova 5i is a mid-range phone and a rebranded version of the P20 Lite (2019) presented recently in Europe. It comes with the Kirin 710 chipset, a 6.4-inch LCD panel with a punch-hole at the top-left corner for the 24-megapixel selfie shooter and a fingerprint.
The rear shell of the Nova 5i has a quad camera setup that includes a 24-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a ToF sensor. The P20 Lite (2019) has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera and includes another 16-megapixel sensor as the primary lens in its quad camera setup. The phone will have 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage with a microSD card slow, and run of EMUI 9 based Android 9 Pie OS, with a 4,000mAh battery.
Launch dates set for end June, July
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro will cost CNY 2,999 with 128 GB, CNY 3,399 with 256 GB and 3,799 for the 256 GB special limited edition (with free Bluetooth earphones). It will come in Dilemma Forest, Midsummer Purple, Coral Orange and Orange Black. Pre-sales have launched, with shipping set for 28 June.
The Huawei Nova 5 will come in the same colours minus the Orange variant, for CNY 2,799. Pre-sales will start on 13 July and shipping on 20 July.
Finally, the Huawei Nova 5i will be available in Crush Blue, Crush Red and Midnight Black. The phone will be priced at CNY 1,999 with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and CNY 2,199 with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Pre-sales have commenced, with shipments scheduled for 28 June.
