Huawei, ZTE deny spying, security threats to US

Executives from Chinese telecommunications equipment makers Huawei Technologies and ZTE have denied that their equipment poses a security risk to the US. The executives testified to House Intelligence Committee and forcefully denied the claims of stealing trade secrets and posing security threats, the Financial Times writes. "Huawei has not and will not jeopardise our global commercial success nor the integrity of our customers' network for any third party, government or otherwise, ever," Huawei senior vice president Charles Ding said in his opening statement. Huawei has been accused by US officials of having ties to the Chinese military, in part because its founder, Ren Zhengfei, previously served in the country's armed forces as a technology specialist. Both companies said they were not engaged in espionage.
