Europe stuck in the middle as US-China telecom trade war looms

The threat of a global trade war initiated by the US has spread to the telecom sector. From blocking takeovers, such as Qualcomm by Broadcom, to banning exports to China's ZTE, the Trump administration is making its policies felt in the industry. China, the US's biggest economic rival, appears the primary target so far, but Europe needs to figure out its position before getting caught in the cross-fire. China's Huawei and ZTE are well-established suppliers in Europe, both in the wholesale and consumer markets, and a US ban on their products could have far-reaching effects, especially given
