US NGOs sue NSA over surveillance system

The US's Free Software Foundation (FSF) has joined eighteen other advocacy and activist organisations in challenging the NSA's mass surveillance of telecoms in the US in a lawsuit filed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). The recently revealed surveillance program intercepts and catalogues the time, place, and participants of all calls on Verizon's phone network over a defined period. This includes calls made between advocacy organisations and their supporters. The suit, First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles v NSA, argues that government surveillance of political organisations
