Huawei, ZTE respond to US security concerns

Chinese telecoms equipment makers Huawei Technologies and ZTE have responded to a report from the US House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Huawei said that the report failed to provide clear information or evidence to substantiate the legitimacy of the Committee's concerns, despite taking 11 months to complete. It added that it had co-operated fully with the Committee in the hope that the investigation would be fact-based and objective in its review of their business activities and the global issue of cyber-security. Huawei insists that the Committee ignored their proven track record of network security in the US and worldwide, and that the report employs many rumours and speculations to prove non-existent accusations.

In a separate statement, ZTE said that their equipment was safe and posed no threat to US telecommunications infrastructure. David Dai Shu, ZTE’s director of global public affairs, said  that ZTE appreciated the Committee’s recognition that ZTE has offered US carriers a Trusted Delivery Model solution. He added that ZTE will work with the Committee, US government agencies, and ZTE’s US customers to identify and deploy the most effective equipment cyber-security measures possible.
