ICANN to have 6 new representatives in Africa

Wednesday 13 March 2013 | 11:54 CET | News
The President of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Fadi Chehade, said he is moving ahead immediately with plans to have six new ICANN representatives on the African continent. Chehade said that there will be at least one member of ICANN staff in each of the six regions of Africa, namely North, South, East, West, Central and the Indian Ocean. He said he would like to see a five-fold increase in under two years in the number of accredited Domain Name Registrars on the African continent. Currently there are five, out of more than one thousand worldwide.
