ICASA says Cell C court challenge to new porting rules holds up protection against scams

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) says porting regulations cannot be changed because of a review application by Cell C, ITWeb reported. There has been a spate of porting scams in which criminals hijack a user's WhatsApp account by taking control of their phone number, then ask contacts to make an emergency cash donation via e-wallet transfer.
