Icasa set to appeal court order halting spectrum auction

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa said it will appeal a court order restraining it from proceeding with the auction of mobile spectrum licences needed to expand 4G capacity and roll out new 5G technology. The High Court order of 08 March was obtained by Telkom, which opposes some of the conditions of the proposed spectrum licences. The regulator warned that the delay in the licensing of high-demand spectrum has huge implications in terms of competition in the mobile services market as well as reduction of cost to communicate, particularly data costs for consumers and
