IFT declares Televisa dominant player in pay-TV - report

Wednesday 1 March 2017 | 09:09 CET | News
A plenary session of Mexico's telecom regulator IFT has declared by six votes to one that broadcaster Grupo Televisa does have substantial power in the pay-TV market, reports local daily El Universal, citing an unnamed source. Although the IFT has yet to notify Televisa or its owner America Movil of the vote, the decision could eventually lead to tougher measures against the broadcaster. If confirmed, it reverses a 2015 ruling by the IFT, which concluded at the time that Televisa could not be considered a dominant player because rivals such as Megacable and Dish were increasing subscribers.
